Hidden fees aren’t fun for anybody.
Most visitor.us clients pay our flat vehicle registration services fee. However, some orders may be subject to additional fees. This article describes additional fees that visitor.us clients may potentially face.
New vehicle
Montana charges a registration fee based on the age of the vehicle, with the newest vehicles being the most expensive. visitor.us pays every vehicle’s registration fees at the time of registration on behalf of our clients.
If the model year of your vehicle is two years or newer (and the vehicle is not a motorcycle or a trailer), visitor.us charges an additional fee of $295.
High value vehicle
Montana assesses a Luxury Vehicle Surcharge on passenger vehicles with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $150,000 or more and motorhomes with an MSRP of $350,000 or more.
In addition, Gallatin county (the Montana county in which visitor.us operates) charges a 0.7% tax on vehicle registrations.
visitor.us pays every vehicle’s surcharges and taxes at the time of registration on behalf of our clients.
visitor.us charges an additional fee of 1% of a vehicle’s value for passenger vehicles with an MSRP of $150,000 or more and motorhomes with an MSRP of $350,000 or more.
Electric/hybrid vehicle
Montana finances road construction with a tax on gasoline and diesel. As electric and hybrid vehicles use less fuel than traditional engines, Montana instituted an additional charge for registering electric and hybrid vehicles.
visitor.us charges an additional $95 fee for hybrid vehicles, and an additional fee of $195 for fully electric vehicles.
Supplemental temp tag
If your vehicle cannot be registered before your original 40-day printable Montana temporary registration permit (temp tag) expires (for example, if your vehicle’s seller delays sending the vehicle’s title to visitor.us for registration), a supplemental 90-day printable temp tag can be requested.
visitor.us charges $50 for a supplemental 90-day printable temp tag.
Montana title replacement
If you lose your Montana title, a replacement may be requested. Upon receipt, we will notify you to request an address that’s convenient for you to receive your Montana title replacement.
visitor.us charges $195 for a Montana title replacement.
International shipment
Our shippers, Fedex and DHL, charge additional fees to ship a package to or from outside of the US.
visitor.us charges a fee of $50 for each shipment sent to or from outside of the United States.
Remote online notarization
If you cannot physically sign your vehicle’s prior title, you can authorize visitor.us to sign the vehicle’s prior title on your behalf.
Authorization must be done by a power of attorney, and that power of attorney must be notarized.
You can have your power of attorney physically notarized (i.e., a notary public signs and stamps your physical power of attorney document) or notarized with a remote online notarization (i.e., a video conference with a notary public).
Our remote online notarization provider is NotaryCam.com, one of the only platforms that works with signers that don’t have a US credit history.
visitor.us charges a fee of $50 for each remote online notarization.
Lease renewal
Montana does not require a new lease agreement in order to renew a vehicle's registration, so lease renewals are not required to renew a vehicle’s registration.
Montana requires a lease agreement dated within the past year in order to register a vehicle. If you purchase an additional vehicle within the time frame of your original lease with visitor.us, we will submit the original lease in order to register your additional vehicle.
If you purchase an additional vehicle after your original lease with visitor.us expires, we will sign an additional lease at no additional cost to you.
